I’m 57 and still working. Does my disabled husband qualify to receive spousal benefits?

Published: August 1, 2022

Full question: My husband is 66 years old and disabled, not enough credits or he has only 36 credits working history. I’m 57 and still working. Is my husband qualified to receive spousal benefits?

Hello,

I am assuming your husband is NOT collecting Social Security disability insurance benefits.

When you become entitled and begin collecting Social Security retirement benefits at age 62 or older, your husband may then qualify to collect spousal benefits. However, a spousal benefit can only be collected if the other spouse is collecting their own retirement benefit.

For more specific and individualized support for both you and your husband, I recommend speaking with an expert here.

Best of luck,
Martha
