Will my two adult disabled children qualify for benefits from my earnings record?

Published: February 20, 2023

Full question: I have two adult disabled children, both were born with disabilities. I’m getting close to retirement, will they be eligible to receive benefits from my earning record?

Hello,

Children who are disabled before the age of 22 may be eligible to receive benefits, but the disabilities have to be recognized by the Social Security Administration and documents of proof may be required.

Once eligibility is determined, the amount would then determined based on your work record, but the family maximum benefit would certainly be applied in this situation, especially if a spousal in care benefit may be present as well.
