Full question: Farmer housewife never paid into SS…needs to get a job and pay into SS,,(how long ,how many years, or make how much money) to be eligible to collect SS retirement, and more importantly receive part A medicare?

Hi there,

She would need to work and pay FICA payroll taxes on earnings for a minimum of 10 years (40 credits) to be eligible.

However, if she does not work, she is still eligible for Social Security spousal benefits and premium-free Medicare Part A if they have been married for at least one year and the husband has paid into Social Security and Medicare for at least 10 years.

All the best,
Martha
