I am 70 and still working. How much income can I earn while collecting benefits?

Published: October 3, 2022

Full question: I am 70 years old and I am working how much can I make in 2022 and 2023? I will be applying for Social Security benefits this month.

Hello,

There are two earnings limits that retirees need to be aware of before collecting while continuing to work. The lower limit is $19,560 which impacts a retiree who is collecting until the end of the year before the year you will reach your Full Retirement Age. The upper limit which is $51,960, impacts retirees from the beginning of the year they turn Full Retirement Age until their Full Retirement Age month. After Full Retirement Age there are no longer earnings deductions.

In your case, since you are 70, the earnings limits do not apply to you. This means you can collect Social Security benefits and work without having a reduction in benefits!

Best,
Martha
