Should I be receiving more from Social Security?

Published: October 28, 2025

Full question: I had an accident at 62 so with no income I filed for Social Security, I also at the time on my ex husband. He had not filed at the time I only received $88 dollars off of his. Now he has filed and draws 2500. My on him is now $99 and every once in a while they send $150. Saying that they were in error should I be getting more from his than that?

Hello,

It seems there may be some confusion regarding the benefits you are receiving based on your ex-husband’s record. If your ex-husband is now receiving Social Security benefits and you were married for at least 10 years, you may be entitled to a higher benefit amount based on his earnings record.

The sporadic additional payments you mentioned suggest that there might have been some errors in the calculation of your benefits. I would recommend that you contact the Social Security Administration directly to review your case. They will be able to provide a detailed explanation of how your benefits were calculated and assist in correcting any potential errors.

For expert advice tailored to your specific circumstances, you can also consider consulting with a Registered Social Security Analyst (RSSA). You can find an RSSA near you here.

I hope this information is helpful to you.
