If you were born in 1958 your full retirement age (FRA) is 66 and 8 months (in December 2024). This is when you would receive your full or 100% of your Social Security retirement benefit. This is called your primary insurance amount, your PIA.

If you collect after FRA, your benefit amount would continue to increase each month you delay for a total of 8% per year up until age 70. So at age 70 you would receive 124% of your PIA.

When you apply for retirement benefits, SSA will let you know if that benefit or the survivor benefits is higher at that time.
