Social Security Offices Now Closed

Pamela Kweller RSSA Staff

As of Tuesday, March 17, 2020 all Social Security local offices are closed for in-person service until further notice.

Why did the offices close?

This decision was made as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Social Security agency works very closely with individuals who are 60 and older and this population has been greatly affected by the virus. The SSA wants to protect older Americans, people with underlying health conditions, as well as its own employees.

How do I contact my local office?

Local offices will only provide critical services via telephone. To contact your local office directly, you can find that information by visiting https://secure.ssa.gov/ICON/main.jsp. All other services will be processed online using their secure website, www.socialsecurity.gov.

What services are available online?

  • Apply for retirement
  • Apply for disability
  • Apply for Medicare
  • Check the status of an application or appeal
  • Request a replacement Social Security card
  • And more…
