Marcel Havyarimana was born and raised in the Republic of Burundi in East Africa. After high school graduation, he was awarded a scholarship to attend the National Institute of Higher Education in Agricultural Sciences of Mostaganem, Algeria.
He returned to Burundi with an Agricultural Engineering Degree and worked in the Planning Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and livestock in Bujumbura, Burundi. After one year of service, he was sent to Yaounde, Cameroun for a training in Leadership and Management of Projects of Development organized by the University of Yaounde and the National School of Administration of Paris (ENA de Paris). Shortly after returning to Burundi, Marcel was nominated to be the National Homologue to a German National overseeing projects of development in the Ministry of Agriculture and livestock funded by the Government of Germany. He was also appointed to be in charge of planning of projects of development(Management by Objectives) within the General Direction of the Planning Division of the Ministry of Agriculture and for the entire Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of Burundi.
After two years working in Burundi, Marcel was selected by USAID (United States Agency for International Development) to pursue Graduate Studies in the USA. As such, he attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale (SIUC) and graduated with a Master of Science in Agribusiness Economics.
After his studies in Illinois, Marcel was hired by an Agribusiness Company in Winston-Salem North Carolina, “The Leinbach Machinery Company” as a sales Engineer of Farm Equipment. Marcel was a recipient of Coca Cola Company scholarship to attend Wake Forest University (WFU) in Winston-Salem North Carolina. He graduated with an Executive MBA degree. Afterwards, he was recruited to be a college professor of “Organizational Behavior and Business Management” in Manhattan New York City. Today he conducts seminars on Financial literacy Education around the country. He is licensed in the States of NY, NJ, MA, ME, VA, and TX. Marcel is the President of the Burundian Community of New York (BUCNY).
