My name is Matthew J. Welt, and I’ve spent the last 10 years helping people make sense of one of the most important parts of life—retirement.
I started my career working with teachers, professors, and administrators, walking them through their pensions, explaining how benefits are calculated, how COLAs work, and how to fit 403(b)s, IRAs, brokerage accounts, and Social Security together into one clear picture. What mattered most to me wasn’t just showing them their gross income—it was helping them understand what would really land in their bank account after taxes so they could confidently pay bills, travel, spoil grandkids, and enjoy the retirement they’d worked so hard for. I believe retirement isn’t about pinching pennies or watching the market every day—it’s about preparing in a way that allows people to live fully, even when costs rise and markets shift.
As I worked, I began meeting business owners—many married to teachers—and saw firsthand how much they were overpaying for benefits and health insurance, often in ways that weren’t tax-efficient. My curiosity and problem-solving nature pushed me to learn more. I became an expert in tax savings and employee benefits, helping companies cut costs, reduce premiums and copays, and still provide stronger benefits for their employees—boosting both retention and morale.
Around that same time, I started getting more and more questions about Social Security. I realized how often people were receiving confusing or even bad advice—especially when it came to taxes. That’s when I made it my mission to become an expert in Social Security’s complex rules, so I could help people avoid costly mistakes and truly maximize their retirement income.
My passion for this work comes from my own roots. I grew up in a small Minnesota town where my parents worked hard and saved carefully to build a retirement they could enjoy. They both grew up with very little, and they were determined to give their kids a better future. Thanks to planning and the right guidance, they now have the kind of retirement they dreamed of—one filled with peace of mind and enjoyment. That’s what I want for every family I meet: a retirement that feels secure, not stressful. One where you can sleep at night knowing that even when the market dips or the economy shifts, you’re still going to be okay.
On a personal note, I’m married to my amazing wife, Emily, and together we have four wonderful kids, ages 3 to 10. We love the outdoors, concerts, hiking, sports, and family game nights. My family keeps me grounded and reminds me daily why financial security and peace of mind matter so much.
I look forward to meeting you, understanding your unique situation, and helping you build a retirement plan you can truly feel good about.
