Professional Details
Since 2009, licensed health and life insurance broker Karen Vachon has helped individuals and families across Maine navigate the Under-65 Individual Health Insurance and Medicare markets, with a particular focus on helping clients prepare for retirement and transition to Medicare.
In 2026, Karen became Social Security certified after recognizing how closely Social Security decisions can affect health insurance costs. For retirees and individuals under 65, Social Security income can impact ACA premium tax credits, while for Medicare beneficiaries, it can affect the cost of Medicare Part B premiums. Her additional training allows her to help clients better understand these connections, evaluate when to begin collecting Social Security, and make informed decisions that can help manage their overall healthcare costs.
Karen’s commitment to serving Maine extends beyond her profession. A Scarborough resident and parishioner of St. John Paul II Parish, she is a past board member of the Scarborough Community Chamber and represented the people of coastal Scarborough in the Maine Legislature, serving two terms in the Maine House of Representatives from 2014–2018. She holds a BA from New England College.
Karen believes that good insurance planning starts with understanding the whole picture—and her goal is to provide Maine individuals and families with the knowledge and guidance they need to make confident decisions about their health coverage, Medicare, Social Security, and retirement.
