Better Retirement Decisions Start With Understanding How the Pieces Fit Together
Choosing Medicare is not just about finding a plan. Deciding when to take Social Security is not just about choosing an age.
These decisions can affect one another — and they can affect your income, healthcare costs, taxes, savings, and financial flexibility for years to come.
That is why Jeremy Harkins believes retirement planning should begin with understanding the whole picture.
Too often, people take shortcuts. They compare Medicare premiums without fully understanding the coverage. They claim Social Security because they reached a certain age or because a friend told them what they did. They make individual decisions without stopping to ask how those choices may work together five, ten, or twenty years from now.
Sometimes the consequences do not show up immediately.
They may appear later when a doctor is not in a Medicare plan’s network, a prescription costs more than expected, changing Medicare coverage becomes more difficult, or someone realizes that a different Social Security claiming strategy could have provided a better long-term result.
Jeremy helps clients slow the process down before those decisions are made.
As a Registered Social Security Analyst® and Medicare professional, he helps individuals and couples understand the choices in front of them, compare the tradeoffs, and see how Medicare and Social Security fit into the larger retirement picture.
His approach is shaped by more than insurance.
Before entering the Medicare and retirement field, Jeremy spent more than 25 years working in technical engineering and operations. That background taught him to look beyond the obvious answer, understand how different parts of a system interact, identify potential problems before they occur, and think through the long-term consequences of a decision.
He brings that same mindset to retirement planning.
With Social Security, that means looking beyond simply asking, “Should I take it at 62, 67, or 70?”
A thoughtful analysis may also consider your earnings history, marital situation, anticipated retirement date, other income sources, Medicare timing, and the role Social Security will play in your overall retirement income.
With Medicare, it means looking beyond the monthly premium.
Jeremy helps clients consider their doctors, hospitals, prescriptions, travel needs, potential out-of-pocket costs, the differences between Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement coverage, and how today’s choice could affect their options later.
The goal is not to make retirement more complicated.
It is exactly the opposite.
Jeremy’s job is to take complicated rules and decisions, explain them in plain English, and help you understand enough to make a thoughtful decision for yourself and your family.
Based in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and serving clients from coast to coast, Harkins Health & Wealth helps people prepare for Medicare, evaluate Social Security claiming strategies, and think more intentionally about the transition into retirement.
Because the question should not simply be:
“What can I do today?”
It should also be:
“What could this decision mean for me later?”
Understand your options. Know the tradeoffs. Choose with confidence.
