Social Security claiming can be the most consequential financial decision you can make. Many attempt to go it alone. Personnel at the Social Security Administration (SSA) are not permitted by law to give you financial advice, such as when should I claim my benefits.
This is where a Financial Planner with specialized Social Security training, like me, can help. Everyone’s financial situation is different so there is not a one size fits all approach to advice and Social Security claiming is no different. Making the best claiming decision for your specific situation is a foundational step towards the rest of your financial plan.
Once that foundation is in place, we can then look at the rest of the structure. Financial planning allows you the luxury of time. Time to review all of the problems that you know that you have and the ones that you do not know that you have. Then we can review the available solutions to resolve your financial concerns. Financial planning affords you the time to “make mistakes” in a simulated environment instead of the real world. And then the ability to test drive multiple solutions to correct those mistakes, so when the chosen solution is implemented in the real world, you can sleep comfortably knowing we have accounted for the formerly “unforeseen” circumstances.
I welcome the opportunity to help you.

If you are married, you may be able to collect up to one-half of your spouse’s Social Security benefit. This won’t affect your spouse’s checks. Ask an RSSA® for details.
Divorced
If you are divorced and 62 or older, you may qualify to receive Social Security benefits from your ex-spouse — in addition to your own Social Security payments. Ask an RSSA® for details.
Widowed
If your spouse has passed away, you may be eligible for a survivor benefit. The extra money may be essential for you. Ask an RSSA® for details.
Single
If you are single, and solely responsible for your retirement, making the optimal Social Security claiming decision is particularly important. Ask an RSSA® about your options.
Self-Employed
As a self-employed person, you may be able to decrease your payroll taxes — yet still receive the maximum income from Social Security. Ask an RSSA® for details.
Disability
Social Security can provide valuable disability benefits if you qualify, but these benefits — and how you qualify for them — are often misunderstood. Ask an RSSA® for details.
Immigrant
If you are a lawful permanent resident, but not yet a citizen, you may still qualify for Social Security benefits. Ask an RSSA® for details.
